FAQ
How does the API key system work with Beam?
Beam operates on a Bring Your Own Key model. While you pay an upfront fee for the native macOS application, the actual AI processing is powered by your personal OpenAI API key. This means you are responsible for any usage costs incurred on your OpenAI account, but you avoid the recurring monthly subscription fees typically associated with third-party ChatGPT wrappers.
